GCAA Hosts First-Ever St. Louis City Music Performance Festival

Grand Center Arts Academy created and hosted the first-ever St. Louis City Music Performance Festival at the Sun Theater on April 8 & 9, bringing together students from across the region for two days of performances and learning.

Nearly a dozen schools from across the city and region participated in the event, which was designed to be more accessible and enriching compared to traditional music competitions. The festival provided a platform for students to perform, receive feedback from expert adjudicators, and observe their peers — an opportunity not typically offered at similar events.

GCAA featured nine of its own choral and instrumental groups during the festival. Students gained valuable experience by performing on stage and learning from professional critiques and peer performances.

Organized by GCAA’s Director of Bands and Music Department Chair, Mrs. Stephanie Grasso, the festival reflects GCAA’s ongoing commitment to supporting programs that expand opportunities for student musicians and promote collaboration across schools.

Participating schools included Hazelwood East High School, Ritenour High School, University City High School, McCluer High School, Soldan International Studies High School, STEAM Academy High School, Orchard Farm Junior High School, Hazelwood Southeast Middle School, Jennings Junior High School, and Jennings Senior High School.
